Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Back To Weddings

Here are answers to some of the more common questions we’re asked…

Q:   Do we get our marriage license through you?

A:    No, you have to go to an Alberta Registry Office to apply for the document. This can be done anytime within 90 days of your wedding ceremony.

Q:    Are there specific guidelines or requirements when you apply for your marriage license?

A:    Yes, you will want to read through the Marriage License Application Guidelines. You can find them HERE on Alberta’s Service Alberta website.

Q:    We want a family friend to marry us. Are you allowed to just observe and let them perform the ceremony?

A:    The province of Alberta has very strict guidelines that we must follow in order to retain our status as marriage commissioners. As a result, I cannot allow your friend to marry you. However, I am willing to work with you and your friend to find a special and meaningful way to include them as part of your ceremony.

Q:    Is it important that we meet with you before the ceremony?

A:   Your wedding day will be one of the most important days of your life. The entire reason you’re getting together to celebrate is the wedding ceremony and the promises and commitment you are making to one another. I need an opportunity to meet with the two of you and get to know you both a little better in order to design a ceremony that is meaningful to the two of you. Please give me the time to allow me to do my job to the best of my abilities. You won’t be disappointed!  (For those of you who live outside Calgary and are travelling here for a wedding, I can arrange to do this meeting by phone.)
